Here are the steps to install Windows on your computer:
Before You Begin:
- Backup Your Data: Make sure to back up important files to an external drive or cloud service.
- Create a Bootable USB Drive: Download the Windows ISO file from the official Microsoft website. Use a tool like Rufus or the Windows Media Creation Tool to create a bootable USB drive (minimum 8 GB).
Step 1: Insert the Bootable USB
- Plug the bootable USB drive into your computer.
Step 2: Enter BIOS/UEFI Settings
- Restart the computer and enter the BIOS/UEFI by pressing a specific key during startup (usually F2, F12, ESC, or DEL, depending on your system).
- Once inside, navigate to the boot order menu and set the USB drive as the first boot device.
Step 3: Boot from USB
- Save the changes and exit the BIOS/UEFI settings.
- Your computer will now restart and boot from the USB drive.
Step 4: Start Windows Installation
- Language Settings: Once Windows setup starts, choose your preferred language, time, and keyboard layout, then click Next.
- Install Now: Click Install Now to start the installation.
- Product Key: If you have a product key, enter it. If not, choose I don’t have a product key and you can enter it later.
- Select Edition: Choose the edition of Windows you're installing (e.g., Windows 10 Pro, Windows 11 Home).
Step 5: Choose Installation Type
- Custom (Advanced): If you're doing a clean install, choose this option to install Windows on a specific partition.
Step 6: Partition the Drive
- If you're installing Windows on a fresh drive, you may need to create a new partition.
- Select the unallocated space and click Next.
- If you want to delete an existing installation, select the partition and click Delete, then proceed with the new installation.
Step 7: Windows Installation Process
- The setup will begin copying and installing Windows files. This process might take some time.
- Your PC will reboot several times.
Step 8: Set Up Windows
Once installation is complete:
- Region and Language: Confirm your region and keyboard layout.
- Network Setup: Connect to Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
- Account Setup: Sign in with your Microsoft account or create a local account.
- Privacy Settings: Choose your privacy preferences (like location services, diagnostics).
- Cortana Setup: You can choose to enable or disable Cortana.
Step 9: Finalize Installation
- Windows will finish setting up your desktop environment and install drivers.
Step 10: Install Updates & Drivers
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update to install the latest updates.
- Install any drivers for your system (graphics, network, etc.), if needed.
And you're done! You now have Windows installed and ready to use on your system.
